Welcome to the G3CS monthly newsletter. We are excited to have an opportunity to let you know all we have going on this month!

Happy New Year! We at G3CS are so exciting to start 2020 off with a bang! After taking a couple of weeks of the start the New Year, we are very happy to bring Extraordinary Minds back to our Stafford County Schools. EYM has begun in both Hampton Oaks Elementary and Garrisonville Elementary. We have already met some amazing students, and we are expecting big things from our EYM kids this year. As always, EYM is made possible with the support of our partners at Youth Technology Network and the Geek Squad from our local Best Buy store.

Our first EYM Sunday is coming soon! January 19th from 4pm-6pm at the Stafford Hospital. Students of all ages and their families are welcome to check out the activities we have this month. We’ll see you there!

G3CS is happy to welcome our newest team member, Chris McMillian. Chris comes to us from Richmond, VA. A former high school and college athlete, Chris graduated from Randolph-Macon college with a passion for mentoring youth. We are excited to have Chris join our team. He brings great enthusiasm and excitement to our EYM workshops, and he looks forward to furthering our mission of making a positive impact in our community. You’ll see Chris at our EYM Sunday workshops and community events. Be sure to welcome him to the team!

Welcome to the G3CS monthly newsletter. We are excited to have an opportunity to let you know all we have going on this month!

Fall is in full swing and our programs are as well. We have wrapped our EYM program at two schools, Spotswood Elementary and Hampton Oaks Elementary, and we have begun our last schools of 2019, Margaret Brent, Conway Elementary, and Rockhill Elementary!

Please check us out at our EYM Sunday workshop in November! EYM Sunday meets at the Stafford Hospital on Sunday, November 17th. This month we’ll welcome the Future Kings, Best Buy’s Geek Squad, Cyber’s Future, and many more volunteers leading students through interactive learning activities.

We are also very excited to announce some of our new programs that we’ll be launching in the New Year. Stafford Middle School is hosting our pilot program of EYM- Middle (or EYM2). EYM2 is our character development workshop that takes place before school at Stafford Middle. As we expand our program, we are looking forward to working with middle school students in Stafford.

Additionally, we’ll be partnering with cybersecurity/IT leader GCubed and Cyber’s Future, a local cybersecurity training company, to pilot a cybersecurity class at North Stafford High School. Slated to begin in January 2020, we are looking forward bringing this program to NSHS and beyond soon.

At G3CS we value our community, and it is our mission to serve those in need wherever possible. In the season of Thanksgiving we are so grateful for the generosity of those who partner with us on a regular basis. From giving donations for our events and programs to every volunteer that teams with us to show and share their passion for those around us. We are so thankful for the school teachers, counselors, and administrators who welcome our EYM program into their schools, and for the students who participate and bring so much imagination, joy, and hope for bright futures.

In partnership with those around us that share our vision and desire to serve Stafford, we are happy to announce that we are preparing 25 Thanksgiving dinners to our neighbors this season. In addition, we are donating to partner with Rocking Nissan of Stafford in their effort to provide 300 meals to local veterans in need. We could not be happier to show our gratitude to all of you by helping those among us who are truly in need. This is just another example of how “together, we can do more.” THANK YOU!!!

Happy Fall! School has started, and our EYM School programs are in full swing. We are so excited to be back with our Extraordinary Minds Students at Hampton Oaks Elementary, Conway Elementary, Rockhill Elementary, and Spotswood Elementary for the first part of this school year! Additionally, our EYM Sunday program continues. Our October workshop marks our 1 year anniversary of EYM Sunday at the Stafford Hospital. We are continuing to grow and bring new opportunities for our students of all ages. See the flyer below for more information about our October workshop. EYM Sunday is open to all students from any grade, school, or county. All are welcome!

In the news: Keanu Reeves Films PSA!

Last month we were so excited to share a very special partnership. Keanu Reeves, actor and the executive producer of the film ‘Already Gone’, filmed a PSA in support of G3CS and its impact on the students, families, and veterans of Stafford County. Because of the awareness raised, G3CS was able to provide funding for many of its EYM School programs which are offered to area schools at no cost to parents or the individual schools. G3Community Services is so thankful, both to the efforts of Keanu Reeves and his team and to the donors from far and wide who helped to get us started this school year. We are inspired and encouraged to have so many believe in the mission of G3CS!

Building ‘The Bridge’

The Bridge program is now accepting applications!

If you are a high school Junior or Senior you are invited to apply to our transitional program, The Bridge. Whether your plan after graduation is college, the military, the workforce or you’re still figuring it out, we are here to help. Concentrating on real world subjects like budgeting, resume building, pros and cons of social media, job interviewing and more, our goal is to equip you with the knowledge and support to create your plan and make it a success. Welcome to the G3CS monthly newsletter. We are excited to have an opportunity to let you know all we have going on this month!

Summer is officially here! While our in-school EYM workshops are on Summer break our EYM Sundays are still cooking! We will see you in July for our next workshop, in which Captain Peters of the Stafford Sheriff’s Department will be introducing RC Cars to all EYM students. July 14th we’ll be hosting our annual Hoops 4 Hope Event at St. Claire Brooks Park in South Stafford. This community block party is always a don’t miss event! We will have a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for entertainment, a 3 point shootout and skills competition for you to test your skills, food provided by JT’s Bourbon Grille, kids games provided by Crazy4Gaming, and much much more. Plan to join us on July 14th. Lastly, G3CS has been recognized in a handful of Stafford/Fredericksburg publications throughout the last few months. Most recently, we received the 2019 Business Honor Roll award from the Virginia School Board Association. We are so proud of this recognition, and we are so thankful to all of those involved. Congratulations to the first class of seniors to graduate from The Bridge Program! We are excited to see where the potential of these seniors takes them. We are proud of what they accomplished. We wish you all the best!

G3CS MAKES HONOR ROLL

G3Community Services was recognized as a part of the 2019 Business Honor Roll program for its support of Stafford County’s public schools with programs such as Extraordinary Young Minds and The Bridge Program. G3CS received a commendation certificate from the Virginia School Board Association during a school board meeting in June.

GCubed Enterprises provided a mentorship program at 10 elementary schools to teach character development through science, technology, engineering, art and math; and an apprenticeship program that supported high school seniors as they transitioned to college, the military or the workforce. It provided volunteer coaches for Sea Pearch, Focus program and Career Café; sponsored a Chick-Fil-A breakfast for all elementary, middle and high school counselors; and donated 30 laptops, four robotics kits and 150 Thanksgiving and holiday dinners for SCPS families in need.

G3Community Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Stafford.

Welcome to the G3CS monthly newsletter. We are excited to have an opportunity to let you know all we have going on this month!

2019 has been a whirlwind for G3CS up to this point. We have made some amazing strides, and we have seen our community come together in big ways already this year. We even received recognition from the Stafford Board for our EYM program. We’d like to thank all of our school administration, partner, students, and volunteers who make EYM possible! You are the backbone of what we do at G3CS.

Our Bridge program is winding down as our current crop of high school seniors prepares to graduate from the program and from their time at their respective high schools. We are so proud of the work they have accomplished, and we look forward to their continued successes.

Our first Stafford County Comics and Collectibles community event was a great success! Thank you to all those involved! Nearly 200 people turned up to the Stafford Regional Airport to experience some all around family fun while learning more about art, reading, story telling, and much more. Thank you to our vendors Treasure Chest Comics, Gateway Comics, The Card Cellar, and Koi Tea for helping to make such an enjoyable event for everyone. Be sure to support our local small businesses and see all they have to offer! We are looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Welcome to the G3CS monthly newsletter. We are excited to have an opportunity to let you know all we have going on this month!

2019 is underway, and we are starting with a bang at G3CS. Our EYM programs have expanded into a number of new schools. February will see separate boy and girl student groups at Rocky Run Elementary. We have partnered with Hampton Oaks and Kate Waller Barrett Elementary schools to begin in March. We are currently discussing the expansion of EYM into county middle schools as well. Our Sunday EYM in January had a fantastic turnout. We are very excited to offer such a wonderful workshop to children of all ages and schools and their parents. Be sure to join us this month at the Stafford Hospital to see what’s in store. G3CS’ Project Destiny and Dare to Dream programs have been officially launched. Keep up with us to hear more about those programs serving our nations veterans and our communities budding entrepreneurs. A Message from GCubed Founder & CEO Vernon Green Jr.
Black History Month

Before I begin, I do not consider myself to be a scholar or anyone of importance. I simply try to do what I can, when I can. I have made many mistakes, bad decisions, and done stupid things.

But if you will allow me, I would like to share a few thoughts. As we recognize Black History Month, I am torn. There is no way that I cannot appreciate the progress that has been made as I sit as the CEO of a multi-million dollar organization. There has been great progress as I stand on the shoulders of so many that have come before me, great progress indeed. However, a steady and firm reality check reminds me that we have not arrived at a true place of equality.

I am torn because I served this nation for over 20 years in the Army believing in the principles for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Yet I question, is there liberty and justice for all? I believe that there are great people in this nation of all races, genders, and ethnicities. While abilities are abundantly shared among all, opportunities are not. Should I be pacified by the progress or irritated by the lack of true equality?

Honestly, I fall somewhere in the middle. I believe over-generalization is always counterproductive. There is racism on both sides. I have struggled to maintain the peace within collaborative teams because of differences along racial lines. In many of these situations, I see that it comes down to lack of experience with diverse people rather than true racist intentions. The truth is that our backgrounds may be different, we may lack the experience and familiarity of other cultures. Until we genuinely try to understand one another, the issues will continue.

I communicate to my teams that we should operate under the understanding that, at least on this team, we all mean well. There will be friction and differences but it never comes from a place of hate. In all things seek understanding. Perspectives will always be different as they are a culmination of each person’s experiences. You will have those who say “by any means necessary.” You will have those who feel the best option is to become part of the system. There is a difficult relationship between the system and all people. When subsets of the system feel that the system does not represent or protect them, they look elsewhere for relief. They may even use that inequality to justify their decisions. Again, understanding is key.

It is hard for someone who has never experienced this feeling of exclusion or neglect to understand the mindset that the excluded and neglected perceive. And still, I will not allow the excluded and neglected to use that as an excuse for not doing the right thing. You cannot cure hate with hate. At GCubed Enterprises, Inc and G3 Community Services, we believe TOGETHER, we can do more! While Dave Chappelle is a hilarious comedian and I have never considered him to be a moral compass, he recently said something that stood out to me.

“Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe, say or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”

Our politics and our leaders have transitioned from compromise to mud slinging and from governing to poor leadership.

Today, I challenge every individual to “Think Different”: to seek understanding and to show compassion, to dream. Not because its Black History Month. Do it because it will further your relationships with your fellow man. Do it because it will foster your understanding of the great people that comprise this nation. Do it because we have the capacity to be the great nation we long to be!

Dream like Martin. Imagine like John. Innovate like Steve. Create like Albert.

Program Spotlight

This month we are highlighting another one of our G3CS programs; Dare to Dream

One of the foundational beliefs of G3 Community Services is that inspiration, restoration, and empowerment all go hand in hand. This is best modeled by our Dare to Dream program. Dare to Dream is a mentoring program for aspiring small business owners and entrepreneurs in our community. Our goal is to give back to those around us by sharing the experience of successful local business owners, CEO’s and entrepreneurs. Participants are provided personalized guidance and access to the day to day operations and inner-workings of thriving small businesses in Stafford.

Dare to Dream Spotlight: Johnnie Walker

“The reason why I would choose this program is it [afforded] me the opportunity to operate in a relatively safe space to go out and build my business to level that it really needs to be.”

Johnnie Walker is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. He is set to retire in April of 2019, and he is currently in the process of starting his own business intelligence, data and database analysis company. As a participant in the Dare to Dream program, Johnnie has had the opportunity to experience first hand the operations and processes of a successful SBA Certified 8a Small Business Minority Owned Service Disabled Veteran Owned business in the IT and physical security scope. Dare to Dream affords participants mentorship and guidance from community business owners, and Johnny is well on his way to adding himself to the list of small business owners in Stafford County.

G3CS would like to wish you and your families a prosperous year in 2019! We have been preparing for some time to get this year started. Our EYM program is excited to expand with four more schools. We will see you this Winter at Conway Elementary, Rocky Run Elementary, Garrisonville Elementary, and Rockhill Elementary, and we will be returning to Hartwood Elementary School as well. Volunteer Spotlight:

Our EYM Sunday workshops would not be possible with out the tireless efforts of our mentor volunteers. Mentor volunteers help us a run one of a variety of different stations throughout our two hour workshops. Each workshop aims to present a new and unique experience introducing students to a number of STEAM associated activities and exercises. We’d like to introduce you to one of those mentor volunteers, Ms. Kristen Lloyd:

In 2016 Kristen met G3CS Founder, Vernon Green, when they served together in the youth group at the Stafford NAACP. In January of 2018, Kristen began volunteering with G3CS’ Extraordinary Young Minds program, and she has been with us ever since. Kristen is a well-rounded and creative mentor who brings interactive and artistic activities to each of our EYM Sunday workshops. “I’ve loved my involvement and seeing the returning faces every month. EYM provides a space for experiential and extracurricular learning and collaborative work for children and teens from elementary thru high school. EYM introduces students to pursuits not normally covered in the secondary school curriculum such as building drones while also fostering an environment that teaches applicable life skills/lessons.
